UK and Ireland Tour 2011

A few months ago they packed their bags, said goodbye and flew off into the sunset. Twenty-four shows, five countries, too many pints of Guinness and one European summer later, The Blue Mosquitoes are back!

The tour was a great success and we are very humbled by the following venue feedback

The tour was called 'Paper Boats'

The Blue Mosquitoes were a true breath of fresh air.Never before has a band so deserved a comparison to the Pied Piper of Hamlin - they quite literally control you with their music. With apparently very little effort, they can make you laugh, cry or dance until your feet bleed, and there is nothing you can do about it.From the moment The Blue Mosquitoes walked on to the stage, the crowd was hooked; on every note, every word, every melody, every song. The quality of musicianship is absolutely first rate, the original songs are well crafted and delivered with real feeling, and the vocal haunting, soulful, emotional and pure. Despite being road weary, and the fact that the bands schedule meant they had an unflattering time slot, they put on one hell of a show, that will be talked about for years to come. Would we have them back...?In a heartbeat.

as far as a review goes i am not sure that i could really put into words how much we enjoyed the gig, to reduce a blues sun eve crowd to silence is a feet achieved by few and tears at songs are few and far between! then to build the evening up to a toe tapping, leg shaking end was amazing. a return from this band would be most welcome.

The Blue Mosquitoes are simply amazing. Not only are they great artists but even at their young age they are real professionals. It was a pleasure to work with them. Mixing the band was so easy and flawless.

The Blue Mosquitoes were, without caveat, one of the high points of Wheal Dream Folk's year. Superb musicianship and fabulous singing crafted in the highest level of professionalism, a joy to hear. They also had the fortunate hapenstance of being really nice people. I would have them at the club again without hesitation

Returned from Woolley Festival feeling a bit dazed, confused and extremely tired after volunteering as a steward for the weekend. Before I catch up on some seriously needed sleep I had to share something (and no, I am not being paid to promote this band in any way). It was a great weekend with loads of local folk and rock talent on display. But the highlight of the weekend for me was hearing The Blue Mosquitoes play live. Fantastic vocals, great original lyrics and they can all really play their instruments. The lead singer and violinist Hannah Foley actually made the hairs on the back of my neck stand up and as their website says they are a meeting of The Cranberries and the Pogues. The Blue Mosquitoes are a band all the way from Tasmania and are halfway through their UK & Ireland 2011 Tour and if you are lucky enough for them to be performing near you go and see them play. Tickets will be stupidly cheap and I highly recommend you go and hear them live as the quality of the recordings on their website do not do them justice at all. The band had first slot and were playing to a half-empty tent as the festival goers had mostly not arrived at the time, which I thought was both a crying shame and a great honour for the few of us that were there. The Blue Mosquitoes should be playing to a much larger audience. Every track on their début album paper boats is fantastic and it was the only album I bought at the festival. They are definitely a band to watch out for in the future!

It was a pleasure to meet, hear and watch The Blue Mosquitoes when they played here at the Grey Horse/Ram Jam Club. When you are surrounded by live music day in, day out, as I am, it is refreshing to hear such enthusiasm from a band of youngsters who are obviously enjoying what they do - and so good at what they do. A lot of people have asked when they are returning to the UK so it will be great to see them back here one day. Just let me know when.

We took a punt on this one. They looked pretty good on MySpace and it boded well that they had the cajones to risk such a potentially disastrous tour so far from home. We were certainly rewarded in spades for our daring. Blue Mosquitoes turned out to be the most exciting band we'd booked in years and were awarded several standing ovations. Despite their youth they possessed serious charm and charisma. Their musicianship was, at points, startlingly good and their reels implausibly fast. Even at their most sentimental their self-penned songs were never mawkish though. We'd have them back in a heartbeat, if we can still afford a band that will very soon be out of our league, if they're not already. Very pleased and proud that they played our club. A truly great night was had.

Just to say we saw your set down at Hunters Inn the other night and you were brilliant. Great to see young and accomplished musicians taking a different path to the other well-trodden ones. Keep at it guys.

The Blue Mosquitoes performances at our annual Clovelly Maritime Festival in July was hugely enjoyed by the visitors on the day; a very talented and surprisingly youthful, but professional band who sang and played with great passion and vibrancy. We would love to have them come back to perform at one of our annual events again.

I just want to say, as you know Kit and I have been running clubs for a very long time in the early seventies we booked a up and coming band called the Tannahill Weavers that nobody had ever heard of down here and we had a night to remember of really good players. You wouldn't believe that this is the first time since then that its has been so feckin spectacular.

It (isn't) easy finding the words to describe the wonderful performance the band gave us.

The Blue Mosquitoes are a hugely energetic, talented and original young band from Tasmania. They play a wide range of music, from original songs to traditional tunes - all interpreted in their own unique fashion. Their music is contemporary with a Celtic undercurrent, taking the audience on an emotional journey, from aching ballads through soulful reflections to frenetic foot-stomping jigs. With exquisitely versatile vocals, instrumental alacrity and an infectious passion for music, this is a band not to be missed.
